Stunningly Styled Stencils

Laura Jane and Jenny taught this class; these two amazing instructors shared with me how to maximize the use of my stencils. From stencil printing to dry embossing and of course, my favourite is incorporating them with my mixed media supplies. I had so much fun in creating the card above that I also decided to make an extra set of four to giveaway. The stunning result of the dry embossing made me pull all of my stencils out to test them; it was effortless once I got the combination of the mats on the Gemini Junior right. Now I've got a whole stack of backgrounds ready for any future projects. I must confess I was quite hooked on the process.

  1. Dry emboss your 4 1/4" x 51/2" white card base then splatter Antique Gold ink spray, Watercolour Brush Marker (Citrus Burst, Rouge, Ruby Red) on top.
  2. Secure the Mega Rose stencil on top of black Cardstock then apply embossing paste through the stencil with a palette knife.
  3. While the paste is still wet drop the three colours of the Watercolour Brush Marker on top, spread the colour around with the palette knife. Sprinkle Antique Gold embossing powder on top. Leave overnight to air dry.
  4. Heat emboss the powder with a heat tool then fuzzy cut out the desired shape of the Rose. Adhere the Rose onto the embossed front panel with foam tape.
  5. Die-cut the Simply Friend die out with Black and Gold Glitter Cardstock. Adhere together with liquid adhesive, offsetting a little for a shadow effect.
  6. Adhere the Simply Friend die on top of the Rose with foam tape and Enchanted Gold Metallic thread in between.

Tips: You can use Artist Marker Refills or alcohol inks to colour your embossing paste, and another alternative is Watercolour Brush Markers. Leave the embossing paste on the stencil overnight to dry, then use a heat tool to melt the embossing powder on top. This will reduce the bubbles on the paste, and you get a smoother result on the surface. You can use part of a stencil by fuzzy cutting it out.

Altenew Supplies: Enchanted gold Mettalic Thread, Watercolour Brush Marker (Citrus Burst, Rouge, Ruby Red), Embossing Paste, Antique Gold Embossing Powder, Antique Gold Ink Sprays, Mega Rose Stencil, Elegant Swirls Stencil, Simply Friend Die.
Other Supplies: Black and Gold Glitter Cardstock, Pallete Knife, Foam Tape, Liquid Adhesive, Heat Tool, Die Cutting Machine.
