Hello my friends, today's card will be about masking. What I've learnt from this class is: Positive masking is used when we want to mask off an area inside of an image. Negative masking, on the contrary, is used when we need to mask off an area outside of an image.
How fortunate I am that I already have the Versatile Vases stamp, die and mask stencil from Altenew. To start, I stamped my vase then used the negative stencil of the vase to colour in my image with my ink blending tool quickly. Then I put the positive mask of the vase on and also the Liquid Marble stencil on top. I blended two shades of ink through the stencil, starting from the lighter shade up top, then decreasing it down to a darker shade. The Prettiest Pomander does not have stems, so I improvised with stems from the Painted Poppy stamp - I masked off the top of the vase then stamped five stems inside the vase. For the flower bouquet, I stamped two, one with the embossed outline and the other without but I drew some in with my Zig Clean Colour. For most of the cards I make, I usually have two similar versions of them. I really couldn't decide which one I like more this time, so I did add some photos on for you to see. The bouquet was attached on with foam tape for dimension; then I stamped the sentiment on in Jet Black ink.
To finish off my card two strips of washi tape were adhered on each side of the panel, I do love how you can still see the stencilled background through the washi tape. As always, I did not have a plan for this card but only started with the knowledge of what technique I wanted to apply and which new set from Altenew would put a smile on my face. I hope flowers make you happy too!
Tips: Use different shades of ink on a stencil for more interest. For some set of stamps you can choose which layers to apply (not necessarily all) for a different look. Use a stencil on top of a mask to stretch your products.
