Colour Your Day

Hi there, today I'm trying out something new. My instructor Therese Calvird encouraged us to try out a colour challenge. Altenew's July 2020 colour challenge inspired me, so I created this card not only for my homework but also a chance to join the exciting challenge of the month. I learnt in class to try and keep it simple and only add neutral colours. I'm glad that I did because although it does seem like many patterns are going on, my card still had room to breathe.

I first started to grid out my card with washi tape then stamped the Checkerboard in Rouge on the top part of the panel, then I blended Mocha ink on the bottom half and added a strip of the Bouquet Die on top.
The wreath is a little tricky as I do not have any that are the right size, so I decided to make my own wreath. To do this, I stamped out many leaves from the Sunflower Daisy Stamp, and I cut it out with it's coordinating die. I cut out a circle freehand drawn to the right size then started to add the leaves in an anti-clockwise direction. I then folded and bent the leaves a little for a more realistic look. A gold thread was tied on top of the wreath to make it look more like in the challenge picture, I did try out white ribbon, but it seemed a little bulky for the card. The white heat embossed sentiment is from the Watercolour Halftone stamp. I added a small gold strip of washi tape under the sentiment to coordinate with the top half. To finish off my card, I mounted my wreath and sentiment on foam tape and added Swarovski crystal to the wreath to draw attention to it as the focal point. The card is currently sitting on my art stand, and the more I look at it the more it grows on me! I just love the unique colour combination.

I love learning new techniques and putting them into practice because without this challenge; I would never come up with this colour combination on my own. I do love it as a complete look, and I thank Altenew for organising these challenges for crafters like me.

Tips: You can create your own wreath in any size as long as you have some leaves. If it is a leaf cluster, you can also cut it down.
